How to get a new car key in Austin Tx

So… you lost your car key on East 6th.  That sucks.  You have a few options:

1. Call the dealership – .  Most dealerships will charge you between $150 and $700 for a new car key on a modern vehicle. The downside is you generally have to tow the vehicle in to the dealer (at your expense) which makes getting a replacement key a very expensive mistake. You do get a factory warranty that covers just about any problems.

2. Call a locksmith shop – Locksmith shops stock a very wide variety of keys and depending on the year make and model of your vehicle they’ll typically be able to make a key for around $175 – $250.  Locksmiths shops are reliable, they have a storefront should you have any issues, and they generally are very knowledgeable about automotive car keys. However, they may not have a mobile service and you may have to tow the car in or wait a day or 2 for a technician to come out.

3. Call a large, national scammer locksmith call center –   A scammer locksmith will typically use generic, fake business names like “24 Hour Locksmith” or “Dependable Locksmith Service”.  The people who answer the phones are generally short on the phone, they don’t give a firm price and only want to get your information. You’ll then be told a ‘technician’ will get to you within 30 minutes, and an hour later you’ll still be stuck. Eventually, they will send a ‘technician’ with little to no experience with your car.  They will then charge you WAY more than necessary to pay the ‘technicians’ commission. You get no warranty, they will use fake or misleading receipts, and you have no way to reach them should you have a problem.

4. Call the Austin Key Guy.  My name is Adam, and myself or one of my locksmiths will answer the phone.   Immediately you’ll be asked about your vehicle, how many keys you need and any other pertinent information. You’ll then be given a firm quote for your car key, as well as a time frame and once the job is complete you’ll receive our unconditional 90 day guarantee.
